Freshman Leif Dominguez is probably going to be Gilroy’s starter at 103. Also, Yanez wouldn’t be the first female placer, seeing as Tina Linshamount and Michelle Jimenez both placed at 103 in 06 and 07 respectively.

Great article on Jasmine. A few corrections. Jasmine will not be the first girl to place in CCS as Tina Linhsamout took 6th in 2006 and Michelle Jimenez took 6th in 2007. Also she was not the first girl to place at Mid Cals as Sara Allan Fulp was.

Well she wouldnt be the first. Tina from silver creek about two years ago placed. She may have even been a two time placer. She may have even gone to state one of those years but dont quote me on that. I would love to see another young woman place in our section though. It really says something to compete with the boys and place… good luck this season

Ok it’s true that Jasmine does work hard. What isn’t true is:

1. Michelle Jimenez of Oak Grove took 6th in CCS in 2007 so Jasmine will not be the first female to place in CCS.

2. She wasn’t the first female to place at Mid Cals. Sara Fulp-Allen was.

3. She can’t place at CCS and win the female CCS as you can only compete in one or the other

But she does work hard and you can give her credit for that.

I expect to see a lot of new faces out there this season in the 112 pound division. I went to a couple of the SCVWA tournaments and saw a lot of good close matches in the 112-119 lb range. I hope to see some of those match ups at CCS!!

I heard a rumor that muleman is sitting around 235-240 so look at him at heavys this year

To be fair to Jimenez, his knee got injured so he couldn’t execute his usual offense. He would’ve won the title with relative ease had he not sustained this injury. Also, Yen pretty much stalled out the whole match after he took the lead, but the refs didn’t call it.

Davis (who by the way did not take 6th–if you don’t come to the second day weighins you get disqualified (AKA no medal for you), which is what happened) taking a season off is going to mean he’ll be the one having to catch up to Yen. However, come CCS he should be at the top of his game, and who knows, Yen might be riding high with 4 seconds left and fall off. Just kidding, hopefully Yen won’t make a mistake like that again :). Yen should have a good shot at medalling at state this year, so if Davis can beat or stay close with him, maybe we’ll have 2 medalists.
